Dermagraphics Restoration FAQ

What is 3D Nipple/Areola Repigmentation?

This procedure is a highly specialized practice of dermagraphic reconstruction that restores the natural looking color and shape of nipple after breast reconstruction. If there is no nipple, a 3D nipple can be created with light and shadow, to give the “illusion of protrusion.”

What is the process of Dermagraphics Restoration Like?

Pigment is implanted into the skin, generally using the same procedure as illustrative tattoos.

Why Dermagraphics Restoration?

Most women who choose areola restoration or nipple repigmentation do so because they do not want any more surgeries. Others find the nipple reconstruction they’ve already had done has flattened out and is no longer dimensional. Many find it helps to return a sense of normalcy and femininity to the body, giving them back their sense of self.

Does Dermagraphics Restoration Hurt?

Most clients find that the process is quite tolerable. It is a superficial process and may feel like a sunburn for 2–3 days.

Is Dermagraphics Restoration Safe?

Yes, 3D nipple/areola tattooing/dermagraphics restoration is very safe. Single use disposable needles and pigment are utilized, along with regular handwashing, glove changing, and use of top standards in sanitization protocols. Post procedural instructions, if followed carefully, also ensure a completely safe procedure.

Why Have a Tattoo Artist Perform Dermagraphics Restoration?

Some doctors do fine tattoo work. However, while surgeons are specially trained to surgically create breasts, most are not trained in tattoo procedures, color theory, or how to create a 3D illusion on a surface. A tattoo artist generally has an art background and training, as well as experience in 3D work.

Is Dermagraphics Restoration Covered By Health Insurance?

Yes. The Women’s Health and Cancer Act of 1998 requires insurance to cover post mastectomy reconstruction, including 3D dermagraphic restoration.

Can I Bring a Friend?

Absolutely! Friends and family are welcome to come to the studio.

Is There Anything That Can Be Done About Existing Scars?

Yes. Mike Johnson at Studio Elev8 is a highly experienced artist at blending and using illustrative tattooing to conceal and hide all types of scarring. Sometimes, to cover existing scars, it requires a much more in depth process. But this can be discussed further depending on the situation.
